Americorps
SCCLS has been proud to operate a scattered site AmeriCorps program to benefit low income residents of Massachusetts since 2005. The program, AmeriCorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts (ALA-MA), is designed to open doors to justice for clients, invigorate and support partner sites, and cultivate the next generation of public leaders.

Since the program’s inception, SCCLS has secured more than $7 million in federal funding to recruit and train a corps of AmeriCorps members who assist in providing free civil legal aid to thousands of low-income people each year. Currently, 36 members serve at 18 unique partner organizations throughout Massachusetts. Together they will provide more than 60,000 hours of assistance to our partner organizations and their clients.
In 2010, the program was named one of the most innovative new AmeriCorps programs in the United States by America’s Service Commissions and Innovations in Civic Participation. In 2016, Massachusetts Service Alliance (MSA) nominated our program for a 2016 Excellence in AmeriCorps Programming and Service Award.
